Facial FAQs

How Often Should You Get a Facial?

For most skin types, a facial every four to six weeks aligns with the skin’s natural renewal cycle, which turns over approximately every 28 days. If you’re targeting a specific concern, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, dry skin, or visible signs of aging, then your esthetician may recommend a series of treatments spaced closer together for compounding results. We recommend discussing your schedule with one of our estheticians and to also consider a membership that will allow you to schedule more often at a discounted rate.

What Is the Difference Between Dermaplaning and a Chemical Peel?

Dermaplaning uses a sterile surgical scalpel to physically remove dead skin cells and fine vellus hair from the surface, while a chemical peel uses acids to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells. Dermaplaning is safe for most skin types and has no downtime, making it an ideal option for those with sensitive skin or those who want immediate visible resurfacing results. Chemical peels can be damaging if applied incorrectly or too long, so you should consult a professional before choosing that option. We do offer Aveda’s Perfecting Plant Peel, a plant based peel that offers clinical results , with no downtime in most cases. The Perfecting Plant Peel has 30% strength of a glycolic peel.

Can I receive a facial if I have sensitive or reactive skin?

Yes, Absolutely! All skin benefits from a facial. Treatments are customized to treat your skin’s current condition, allowing care to refine, soothe & balance your skin.

Does Buccal Massage Really Lift and Tone the Face?

Yes, buccal massage works from both the outside and inside of the mouth to access deep facial muscles that topical treatments can’t reach. By releasing tension in these muscles and stimulating lymphatic drainage, the technique can visibly sculpt, depuff, and lift over a series of sessions. Buccal is also a wonderful option for guests with TMJ, jaw tension, and just wanting to relieve tension in the face.

Can You Wear Makeup After a Facial?

It’s best to wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup after a facial. Freshly treated skin is more permeable, and cosmetics can introduce bacteria or clog pores that have just been cleared. Your esthetician at Salon and Spa Venéssa will send you home with personalized aftercare guidance.
